Preparing.

Royce entered the ball room and looked around.

Already people were setting up chairs, fluffing pillows for the couches, and a professor seemed to be enchanting the ceiling to look like the night sky. Royce smiled and walked over to a pile of deflated balloons.

Professor Cabbage was there, with a white balloon, turning his face red as he tried very hard to inflate it. Royce chuckled,

"Need a hand, Cabbage?" Royce asked, looking at the massive pile of balloons near his feet.

"Why, Royce! That would be splendid! Just wonderful!" Professor Cabbage handed a balloon to Royce and pointed to the opening. "Here, try like this." He then showed Royce how to blow into the balloon, making it larger with each breath. "It's the Muggle way!"

Royce chuckled, blew into his own silver balloon, and watched it expand. While he was helping Professor Cabbage, he noticed a familiar face out of the corner of his eye.

They must be here to help as well...

Mark pushed aside the huge doors to the Fool's Ball room. The place was covered in streamers, tables, bowls, balloons, and plates. He noticed Royce, Professor Cabbage, and a few other students helping set up. As he crossed the room, Mark called out to Prof. Cabbage, "Hey, mind if I help?"

"Hey, mind if I help?" Mark called from the other side of the room.

Royce grinned at his friend and patted a spot on the chair next to him.

"That would be splendid, my child!" Professor Cabbage called back. "Ravenclaws sure are helpful, now, aren't they?" he chuckled, noting their tie colors.

Royce grinned at him and gave Mark's back a pound, "He's a good man, Cabbage, good man."

He sat and watched as Mark blew up countless balloons using a spell that Royce had yet to learn. Royce looked at his own pile of inflated balloons.

1...2...3...4...5...6...7....7.

Then he looked over at Mark's pile, which was growing larger by the second.

1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-.....-63-64.

Royce raised his eyebrow, "Hey Mark, think you could teach me how to do that?"

He watched as Mark put the tip of his wand in the balloon opening. The balloon expanded, tied itself, an floated neatly down into the growing pile.

"Hahahaha!" Mark said, laughing at his huge balloon pile. "It's much eaiser than the muggle way." Mark could only remember too well how many muggle parties he had attended, and how many he'd had to set up. Balloons took way to much time.

Mark smiled as his friend's pile started to catch up to his. "There ya go!" he said with a smile. "Much better than the way muggles do it."

Royce mimicked what he say Mark doing, and soon his pile started to catch up to Mark's.

"There ya go!" Mark said with a smile. "Much better than the way muggles do it."

Royce chuckled, "Hey, I am catching up. I'll race you..." Royce nudged his friend.

He looked up and scanned the room, seeing that more students had made their way in to help as well.

"You're on!" Mark said loudly, getting his wand ready. He was still hyper from Herbology, and he needed to work it off.

Cassie took a deep breath, remaining in her regular robes as she watched the balloons and the people prepping.
She'd wait until the last second to get dressed, of course.
People really were being fools at the Fool's Ball.
She sighed and fingered her own wand. One flick, and they'd all pop--but that was unnecessary.
Well, whatever. She'd have fun watching the people who had too much butterbeer, at least.
