Matteus and Royce made their way to the lake.
Royce had spent the day with Adelina dress shopping and then headed to another store with Freddie to get some robes of his own for the Fools Ball.
The trip had made him exhausted and he was ready for some relaxation.

When they arrived, they found that the lake was empty, nobody to disturb the peace and quiet they had both hoped for. Matteus had had a rough day as well, with all the running around trying to get Alison to go to the ball with him.

Royce sprawled out on the grass and ran his fingers through his hair.

"So, Matteus," Royce said, "you ever end up catching Alison?" he chuckled to him self at the thought of seeing Matteus springing himself around people in the corridors earlier that day while he was trying to catch up to Alison.

Matteus joined Royce on the grass when Royce said, "So, Matteus, you ever end up catching Alison?"

Matteus laughed, and ran his fingers through his hair. He had been chasing Alison practically all day yet she always seemed to dissapear somewhere. 'Maybe she knew I was going to ask her.' he thought grimly, 'thats explains the running away.'

"Nah, she is sure hard to catch, the little fox. Oh well..." He paused, "Maybe I should stop literaly chasing her." he turned his head to face Royce, "Pr'lly thinks I'm a complete arse, a true amadán. Oh well, Onwards and upwards!"

"Nah, she is sure hard to catch, the little fox. Oh well..." Matteus said, then paused, "Maybe I should stop literaly chasing her." he turned his head to face Royce, "Pr'lly thinks I'm a complete arse, a true amadán. Oh well, Onwards and upwards!"

Royce chuckled a bit.

"Naw, your doing the right thing man, girls run to be chased. I say, she wants you to come after her."

He looked up at the blue cloudy sky and thought of his own date, Adelina. He didn't have to do any chasing to get her, but he was sure he was going to have to run to keep up.

"Plus, I saw her giggling today with the other girls in Muggle Studies. That's got to be a good sign." Royce added.

He heard a small branch snap in the forest behind him but ignored it, more everyone was in class right now and it was much too early in the day for the dark creatures to be out.

Matteus heard a snap of a twig breaking. Must be a small animal of somesort. No one was out side at this time anyways.

"You think so?" he asked, then joked "It's giving me quite a workout, lose 'few pounds" Matteus and Royce laughed.

"So," he turned to Royce cocked his head and said, "How was your day of shopping? Freddie hard on ya?"

"You think so?" Matteus asked, then joked "It's giving me quite a workout, lose 'few pounds" they both laughed.

"So," he turned to Royce cocked his head and said, "How was your day of shopping? Freddie hard on ya?"

Royce thought back on his shopping day with Freddie.

Shopping day...ha!

It was a girly way to put it, but that is pretty much what it was, there wasn't much male bonding going on.

"Not really, no. But I found out a few things I wish I wouldn't have." Royce sighed, "Adelina and her family are all about being pure blood, and not just pure blood, pure blood Slytherins. Which, I am neither of."

Again, he heard a twig snap. It was getting closer to them now, but Royce didn't think much of it.

"I just hope when she finds out, she doesn't run out on me. You know much about her?" Royce added. "Being new here, I know almost no background."

Matteus looked at his friend, Royce. He had quickly become one of his closest friends, even if it was only his first year here. He was reminded of himself-- he too came to Hogwarts later than most. "Not too much. I'm on good terms with Preston, and he and Adelina had something going on... don't know much 'bout that either. I do know though that her favorite Qudditch team is Kenmare Kestrels. Know that 'cause I was at one of their games in Ireland and saw her there."

he saw the nervous look on his friend's face and cooed, "No worries, mate. If you're good 'nough for her, she won't care to much what her family-- or whoever else for that matter-- thinks. You're a good guy Royce." he glanced towards Royce and quirked an eyebrow, "Hang 'round me too much and I might rub off on you."

Royce chuckled, his friend was right. If Adelina truly liked him, he wouldn't have to worry about her finding out about his past. Surely she would look past it...

"So, you and Preston are friends, then? He doesn't seem to fond of me. I wonder if it's because of Adelina..." Royce answered scrunching his eyebrows.

The last thing he needed this year was an enemy, especially one over a girl.

"Yeah, he was one of the first who spoke to me when I came here in fourth year. We've had our arguments, but all in all he's a good guy. Hold's quite a grudge though, and he doesn't trust others easily." Matteus scratched his wrist reflexively. "My guess is he'll either lighten' up or glare a lot. I rekon he still has feelings for Adelina, would never admit that, o' course."

Matteus heard a rustle of leaves, and cocked his head towards the noise. He saw nothing, but that damned animal was getting to be slightly annoying.

Icky had decided to skip history of magic class today. He had no idea why he was taking it, really. All he knew was that he wasn’t going to take it next year. Especially after the little project that they were supposed to hand in today. Nope, it wasn’t about the lost city of Atlantis. It’s not about the war of Hocus Pocus. Like what Binns had said, “It’s all about YOUR family. I’m sure you all have an interesting family history.” Ha! If that old retired-wannabe thought he was going to learn about Icarus’s history, he was more mad than what Icky thought he was.

So, moving on, Icky was now spending his class time spying. That’s right. Spying . Not too surprising if you know Icky. He enjoyed spying, did it a lot. It was exciting, informative and usually fun. Plus, even when he got caught Icky always ended up with a couple of laughs. Usually Icky did this inside. But, this time, he’d decided to spy on two people outside . Outside had bushes. Outside had trees. Outside had tons of cool places to spy from. Plus, outside had fresh air and less of a chance of being caught by a professor or a prefect.

He wondered why he didn’t choose to spy outside long ago.

SNAP!

Oh, yeah. That’s why. Outside had tons of opportunities to snap a twig. He immediately ducked low, wondering if he was going to get caught. But, nope. Matt and Royce didn’t even appear to have heard him.

Icarus smiled. He stood up and was making his way forward when-

SNAP!

Oh, come on. He ducked low once again, trying to avoid any possible opportunities for them to catch him spying. So, Adelina’s family found being pureblood important, huh? Well, she probably didn’t herself. If she did, that would have been the first question she’ll ask Royce. Then, when she hears a no, would probably leave him. But, still, her family did. You know what that means?

Time to tell her family.

With that thought, Icky decided to show himself and got out from behind the tree he was spying from. He walked up towards the two friends. “Why I’m astonished,” he gasped, “So you aren’t a pureblood? Adelina’s family would love to hear that, I’m sure.” A smiled crossed his face, “But no worries. I wouldn’t tell. Especially seeing as Adelina would probably leave you before the Fools Ball’s preparation even starts.” He suddenly started laughing mockingly, “Adelina with some halfblood like you. Now that‘s a joke.”

Just as Royce was about to ask Matteus more about Preston, a figure emerged from the trees behind them. Royce sat up and was greeted by a Slytherin he hadn't seen yet.

“Why I’m astonished,” the Slytherin gasped, “So you aren’t a pureblood? Adelina’s family would love to hear that, I’m sure.” A smiled crossed his face, “But no worries. I wouldn’t tell. Especially seeing as Adelina would probably leave you before the Fools Ball’s preparation even starts.” He suddenly started laughing mockingly, “Adelina with some halfblood like you. Now that‘s a joke.”

Royce knew that the Slytherin was being sarcastic. He seemed the type that wanted to ruin everyone else's fun so that he could have some of his own. Typical Slytherin if you asked Royce. But he wasn't going to let what the Slytherin had said get to him, after all Adelina wasn't going to care. Was she?

Royce stood up and extended his hand, "Royce Hades. And you might be..."

He looked the boy over, waiting for a response. He hair was tussled and leaves clung around the bottom of his robes.

So that's what the twig snapping was all about...

Matteus was outraged! "Royce! Don't be all friendly with this nasty caffler! You deaf, mate? You're going to let him talk to you like that!?" he turned to Icarus, "You'd better mind your own affairs, bowsie."

Royce had extended his hand and introduced himself. Of course, Icky already knew his name. He’d heard it plenty of times before. Plus, he’d spied on him once. It wasn’t too informative, though. All he could get out of it was his name. But, hey, such events happen to a spy. They just have to smile and move on to spying someone else like what Icarus had done. He stared at the open palm with a mocking smile, acknowledging it was there, but not doing anything about it.

It was then when Royce’s little friend decided to step in. Icarus remembered the time when he tried spying on this guy. But decided to give up. Why? He hadn’t learned much about him other than what other people called him. Something like ‘Matt’? Yeah, that was it. It was all Icarus knew of this guy other than the fact that he was Irish: an obvious fact one would know as soon as he opens his mouth.

“Er…what?” He asked after Matt had finished talking, even though he understood him. It was better to pretend not to. Even though what Matt had said was for Royce, he turned to Royce and asked, “Mind translating, halfblood?” He raised an eyebrow. Seriously, there should be a mocking word for halfbloods. You know, kind of like mudblood.

The Slytherin ignored his extended hand and instead diverted his attention to Matteus, who's face grew a dark red with anger.

"Royce! Don't be all friendly with this nasty caffler! You deaf, mate? You're going to let him talk to you like that!?" he turned to Icarus, "You'd better mind your own affairs, bowsie." Matteus practically yelled.

“Er…what?” the Slytherin asked after Matt had finished talking. “Mind translating, halfblood?”

Royce stiffened his shoulders and stood up straight. He was a good 5 inches taller than the Slytherin, in fact he was a good 5 inches taller than everyone and although it didn't seem to intimidate the Slytherin, it still made Royce feel stronger.

Royce tried to keep his cool. He didn't mind when people teased him or even poked fun at his blood line, but he didn't like that this foolish guy was provoking Matteus. Royce wasn't sure why this guy was trying to pick a fight. If Royce and Matteus decided they had enough, they could easily crush him.

"I suggest you watch you attitude, prat, your out numbered." Royce said, still calm.

Liliane was walking around the Hogwarts grounds. Her trip to Diagon Alley just brightened her day. Adelina didn't seem to hate her, which means a potential future with Freddie. Well maybe, since they're so close.
Walking by the lake she saw Royce. Wow. Even from far away he's handsome !
Then she saw Icarus. Icky, icky, icky was right. What was he doing? It looked like Royce, Icarus, and a Hufflepuff named Matteus were arguing.
Probably Icarus's fault of course.
Storming down towards them Liliane shouted at Icarus, "What are you DOING?! 'Suppose DANGLING IN THE AIR wasn't enough to teach you some manners?!"
Liliane's temper was getting at her again. Once it started it took forever to calm down. Icky of course just had to be a complete git all the time.

Drama. Lucille had just been out for a walk, but now stood awkwardly by the lake, near enough to overhear the conversation between Royce, a Hufflepuff, and Icky. Oh, and Liliane just joined in. Nice. If she didn't know them, she would've been perfectly amused and might even add to the drama. But she happened to be friends with Royce and Liliane - and Icky, well, he's a cool guy. The only person in the scene she wasn't familiar with was the Hufflepuff, probably a seventh year.

“Mind translating, halfblood?”

Yowch. The comment was directed towards Royce, and Lucille couldn't decide if it was obnoxiously funny, or just obnoxious. She was all for blood purity...but she rather liked Royce, he had helped her on one occasion, and Adelina really liked him. Icky...she didn't want to get on his bad side, he was really funny and made her smile all the time...

"I suggest you watch you attitude, prat, your out numbered."

Oh, great. Lucille lost hope that this was going to end peacefully. She wanted to do something, but what? She had to stop this, or it'll turn into something worse. As she took a step closer, a voice in her head told her it wasn't her problem; she shouldn't intrude. She would speak up when she had to. Maybe Liliane -

...Liliane wasn't going to be much help, either.

Matteus couldn't understand how Royce was so calm. This arse was trying to start something, and Matteus's veins were almost to the point of boiling.

"I suggest you watch you attitude, prat, your out numbered." Royce said, still as calm as ever. Matteus had crossed his arms like a defiant child. "Damned prick." he mumbled to himself. He knew Royce and himself could easily take on this Icarus guy, no doubt. However he didn't wish to be expelled or put into yet another detention.

That's when a Slytherin girl... what's her name? Uh, Liliane perhaps? In any case she had shouted at Icarus, "What are you DOING?! 'Suppose DANGLING IN THE AIR wasn't enough to teach you some manners?!"

Matteus laughed for the first time since the drama had occurred. She had spunk, that's for sure. He saw another Slytherin out of the corner of his eyes, Lucille. 'Great,' he thought, 'A crowd of snakes.'

Freddie and Adelina were walking in the school grounds.
Freddie had dragged her away from the warmth of the fire to have a talk about Royce.
She was quite nervous. All Freddie had said was "I think I should tell you something".
What did that mean??
"So Freddie, whats this about?" She sighed, maybe she had mis-read the signs after the shopping trip and Freddie didn't like Royce at all.

Freddie glanced at her, she looked nervous.
He was nervous too.
"Well the thing is Ady, I just wanted to talk about Royce." Freddie began, nervously looking at the ground.
"I mean there are some things you don't know about him."

Adelina was about to ask him what the hell he was going on about when she saw a group of students by the lake.
Two she recognised immediately- Icky and Royce.
Was Royce squaring up to Icky?
What the hell?
She grabbed Freddie and calmly made her way over to the scene.

Freddie cursed under his breathe. Typical!
I'm about to tell her something really important and then he turns up!

Liliane watched as Lucille joined the crowed. The Hufflepuff, Matteus, looked worried. Must be all the slytherins. Nothing too bad.
She heard footsteps coming up behind her, turning around she saw Freddie and Adelina.
Liliane quickly pulled herself together. She didn't want Freddie to see her in one of her temper tantrums. That would be horrible.
Smiling, she said,"Hey Freddie! Hey Adelina!"
Adelina's words from earlier that day flew through her mind, "Freddie doesn't do relationships, he always ends up hurting the girl". Liliane's grin faded a bit.

"Damned prick." he heard Matteus mumble to himself.

Royce smiled a bit at this and was about to say more when...

Royce recognized her face from in town earlier. She was Freddie's date to the dance. He looked around nervously. If Freddie was with her, more than likely Adelina would be too and he didn't want her to catch him engaging in silly drama. It wasn't something he normally did, and he didn't want it portrayed that way.

He quickly looked around and didn't see anyone besides the four of them. He sighed with relief and stared at Icky, waiting for him to say something. Royce was beginning to think they had won, Icarus was just standing there, with a blank stare on his face. What was he thinking?

Then he heard Liliane speak up again, only this time, it wasn't to Icarus.

"Hey Freddie! Hey Adelina!" Liliane ran towards some nearby trees.

Adelina glared at Liliane.
She had heard her shouting.
" You dangled Icky in the air?" Adelina asked, her voice icy cold.
Adelina was much nearer now, and she walked straight past Liliane and stood in front of Icarus.

"Ady, he did muck her up, chill out yeah" Freddie offered in Liliane's defence.
Freddie had never understood Adelina's protective friendship with Icky.
Something to do with both there childhoods being dodgy.
Freddie had never got the full story.

Adelina ignored Freddie.
Why did they always pick on him?
Sure, he wasn't innocent, but he was easy enough to ignore.
"You okay Icky?" She asked turning her back on the group.

Adelina just glared and stormed right by Liliane.
Oh boy.
Luckily Freddie was defending her, but Adelina didn't seem to care.
Are you kidding me?! "He came over, poured freezing water on me, and decided it would be lovely to take pictures. I'm not an idiot. I knew to defend myself," she muttered. She didn't want to yell at Adelina, but she couldn't just stand there.
"At least I took him down once it started to rain!" She shouted desperately.

Royce watched as Adelina marched towards them, but she gave him no attention. Had she even seen him there?

"You okay Icky?" She asked turning her back on the group.

What? Is Icky ok...?

Royce couldn't understand why Adelina was comforting this guy. He had started all the trouble in the first place. Not that she was aware, but still, it seemed far from fair. Royce looked over at Matteus, who still seemed hurt from Icarus' snotty remark. Royce's temper began to rise, he hated seeing his friends like this. He wanted to shout but with Adelina defending Icky, and Freddie was standing near by, what was he supposed to do?

"Adelina," he started, "he's fine." Royce's voice was a bit harsh, but with so many emotions and so many thoughts going through his head, it was hard for him to keep everything back.

Icarus was simply misunderstood in Adelina's opinion.

Well that was probably the end of Liliane and Freddie's never-going-to-happen relationship.

That wasn't at all what Royce had intended to do. He looked at Icarus. This guy was getting exactly what he wanted, drama, drama and more drama. Royce wasn't one to have enemies, but he could tell that this Icarus was, and he didn't like it one bit.

He turned his attention back to Adelina, who looked pretty irritated. She was even more beautiful to him when she was emotional. Her eyes lit up in anger and her chest rose and fell with each huff.

"Punch him? Adelina, honestly. You think I would stoop down to that level?" Royce's voice was still angry, he looked over to Icarus, who had a small grin on his face.
